Usman Khawaja, who sustained a knee injury during the tour of UAE, looks set to appear in the first Test of the four-match series between Australia and India in Adelaide, starting on December 6.

The 31-year-old is expected to take part in a few net sessions next week and could play in Queensland's Sheffield Shield game against Victoria, scheduled to take place from November 27 to 30. The other option is for Khawaja is to play in the tour game between India XI and Cricket Australia XI at the SCG, commencing on November 29.

The southpaw batsman sustained a meniscal tear during a training drill in the second Test of the two-match series series versus Pakistan in UAE. He subsequently had to undergo a surgery to repair the damage.

"It's going pretty well so far, just over two weeks, ran at 100 per cent yesterday on the treadmill, hopefully run outside tomorrow, so progressing well so far," Khawaja said about his recovery.

Khawaja, who opened the batting during the Test series against Pakistan, was in impressive form, capsulised by his match-saving 302-ball 141 in the first Test in Abu Dhabi.
