The India captain, who was leading the national side in an ODI fixture in Indore only on Sunday (January 18) night, flew to Delhi on Monday morning to be in time with the state side. The match starts on January 22. Gill left Indore on Monday afternoon for Delhi from where he will take a flight to Rajkot. At the time of publishing this report, Gill was in Delhi.
"His participation in the Ranji fixture is confirmed. He will take part in the Saurashtra game," said a Punjab Cricket Association source. "The India captain is flying eight hours to feature in a domestic game. That is commitment."
Punjab are placed in the lower half of their Elite Group B, with one win and one defeat from five games. The side is led by Naman Dhir. They have one more game left, against Karnataka (from January 29). Their chances of making the knockouts depend on the outright wins in the remaining two games. Gill last played a Ranji match last season, against Karnataka.
As Cricbuzz reported on Sunday night, apart from Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, who was also part of the ODI, will turn out for Saurashtra. Meanwhile, the Indian team has reached Nagpur for the first of the five T20Is against New Zealand, to be played on January 21.
